"Geometric separation and wavelet analysis in neurobiological imaging"

Date: Tue, May 24, 2011
Time: 13:45
Place: IRC East Wing Seminar Room

Abstract: In our cooperation project with the local neurobiology we aim to design an algorithm that addresses three issues:

  1. Geometric separation of different image contents, namely so-called "dendrites" and "spines" that both play a role in Alzheimer research,
  2. Identification and measurement of these structures and
  3. Parallel processing of multiple image parts in order to get results in reasonable runtime. The talk will contain a brief review of the neurobiological background of the processed images.
Furthermore we want to discuss the iterative algorithm that is used for geometric separation and the approach we use for measurement. Our approach includes shearlet and wavelet analysis and numerical differentiation. Finally we want to present the way we realize multithreading in MatLab and show some numerical results.
